Make this adorable barrette, or hair tie, or necklace .....or just sew out as a regular design! Or do all of the above...what an adorable set. Measures 2.13 by 2.06. I used a 40mm barrette with this.
Step by step instructions for the bee badge: First hoop water soluble stabilizer, I use either one piece of heavy or two pieces of the regular, and lay two pieces of cutaway stabilizer on top of it. Stitch out the entire bee. here are the color sequences: 1. silver..........wings 2. yellow.........head 3, gold............gold stripe on the bees back. Use yellow to match his face or leave this color off so that you can add beads or hotfix crystals. The erinite crystals used to make the bee in the picture above are on special this week (see above) 4.black...........the black stripes and the details on the wings and face.
Your bees design is now done except for the outline. This is where you add an additional piece of cutaway stabilizer under the hoop. This is going to cover up those ugly bobbin stitches! You could use felt too.
5. gray.......this is a straight stitch to hold the backing together with the front.
Now is the time to remove the hoop from the machine and cutaway all the cutaway stabilizer. Trim it right down to that gray straight stitch as close as you can, without pulling or cutting the water solulble stabilizer. Dont worry if you cant get real close you can always trim any excess away later, ( or do what I do, and color any white stabilizer showing black, with a black marker!) Then put the hoop back in the machine.
6. Black.....This is the satin outline stitch or binding of the badge
Remove the hoop from the machine and tear your new badge from the stabilizer, voila! you're done! tip: If you are having problems with the antenae, a little water will activate the water soluble stabilizer and help keep the threads stuck together. Much like free standing lace. |
